Waze is giving away 2 iPads in celebration of our new early betaBlackberry version!

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...or, at least those of you with Blackberries...waze is now available in an early beta version on the following Blackberry devices: 8900, 9000, 9630 and 9700 - hallelujah!

To celebrate the occasion, we're conducting a worldwide berry hunt for all users, on all smartphone plaforms - and for those of you who collect the most points from berries alone, a brand new iPad is all yours!

Here's what you need to know:

* The contest will start on Tuesday, May 4 and run until Thursday May 14, 2010

* Winners will be able to choose either a 32GB Wifi-only version or the 16GB Wifi+3G iPad

* The wazer who collect the most points during this timeframe from blackberry road goodies alone will be the winner. We'll have two concurrent competitions - one for users in the US/Canada, and one for users in all other countries, worldwide.
* Note there are 2 delicious kinds of berries - regular ones, worth 2 points, and super-charged star berries, worth 6 points...

Wishing you lotsa fun while you're out there huntin' for berries!

  10. [...] Users have been flocking to the service which offers free navigation and quite a lot more. Indeed the Waze team have been working on making the service informative and fun to use. Which is why they’re offering an iPad for each of the top two users who much (i.e. drive over) the most BlackBerry road goodies during their daily commutes. (As you drive, you earn ‘goodies’ — a bit like pac man — and you can garner substantial points if you drive a different route thus populating the Waze map with more useful information for everyone else). There’s more information on the Waze blog. [...]

  11. W00t! What a great idea, I spent an hour or so driving around eating blackberries. The more I eat, the more show up! Yum!

  12. Why i'm not seeing any berries in Montreal Canada? No more cupcake and no berries at all! Is it restricted to usa?

  13. Is there any hope of getting a version optimized for the lower resolution blackberrys? (85XX series mainly) It works okay on my 8530, but the items at the top of the screen are jumbled together, and overall it doesn't look nearly as good as the 9630 screen above. Hopefully by the end of the beta, those of us with the "entry level" blackberrys will get a version for ourselves!

  14. Thanks for the awesome contest. I noticed at least twice while driving around today that when I drove over a berry it didn't pick it up. (Even tried turning around and driving over it again.) In one case, I drove by several hours later and picked it up right away. Is there some sort of maximum berries per period of time limitation? Thanks again!

  15. Is there some type of scoreboard we can view for the berries?

I can't believe there isn't a thread in the Forums yet to discuss all the excitement. Maybe I'll make one later.

  16. Hi !

It's fine, I passed all the day playing with it !!

BTW, where could we I get the Blackberry source code ?

  17. Is there a leader board we can look at? Or will there be an update of the leaders at any time before the end? I'd like to know if I'm close to go out and grab an extra 20, or if I'm not even close to give up.

  18. Is there some kind of "Berry Ranking" list, by any chance...? ;-)
Would like to know how I'm doing.

(Or is there no such list because otherwise people nowhere near the top of the list would stop eating berries instantly?)

  19. Sorry guys, no leader board this time around. Much all you can and may the best wazer win!

  20. Unfortunately Las Vegas, and I mean the southwest of Las Vegas is berryless. I have to go up North or near the strip. If only I could dedicate my time driving around town. :-(

  21. Will there at least be a berry leader board when the winners are/have been announced? Even if I don't win (am assuming I won't; just one wazer who's on the road as part of his work day would easily beat me), I'd love to know how I did, even if after the fact...

  22. I still haven't seen any berries anywhere in Canada!

    None in Winnipeg, MB...

    :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. I suggest a change of competition for the future contests.

I don't drive that often and for me there is no idea to grab those berries at all.
There is no chance in the world that I have a shoot of collecting the most berries-points in competition with sales persons that spend all days in there cars driving around.

A better way to organize it is so that you have a chance to win even if you only collect ONE berrie.
Each berrie point will then be like one lottery ticket.
The more you drive and collect berries the more tickets you get and a better percentage to win.

But still, anyone one with a fulltime job behind a computer still have a shot of winning if I take the detour and collect only one berrie when they go for they weekly drive to the supermarket.

  24. will i find berries in egypt's roads ?

  25. Johannes, your proposal makes sense. We'll definitely consider next time.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I second Johannes proposal. As a regular wazer, I would more inclined to go out of my way to collect blackberries, if I thought I had a chance of winning.

  27. I think this is a great idea! Too bad that the person that participates the most doesn't get the reward. Oh wait, that is what's happening. And, still with the complaints?

Thank you Waze for offering something for free and still having to hear all the complaints as if the complainees have paid a dime for the service you offer. Bravo!
