The future of all non-iPhone platforms on waze

Dear Android, BlackBerry, WinMo and Symbian Users,

We know some of you guys out there are frustrated that not all new features are available across your platforms, so we wanted to give you a bit of an understanding for the reasons behind that. As you know,  each device and OS type has its own characteristics and interfaces, both UI (different screen sizes and display types) and code based (OS specific interfaces, native device interface) which require extensive modifications to the code as well as thorough testing. We prefer to test it extensively on one platform (which is the easiest to develop for since there is more or less one OS type and one device type) before shifting to other platforms, and that’s why you’re seeing new releases with features geared mainly towards the iPhone.

Please don’t think that we’ve forgotten about you guys on other platforms, because we absolutely haven’t. Our users and their happiness are at the center of all that we do over here (really!), so we just ask for a little bit of patience with us. So you know, we do have an internal timeline outlining the dates by which we hope to integrate all new features across all supported platforms, but we don’t feel so comfortable to publish it. Mainly because we’re a start-up with a lean staff and unexpected things and delays are bound to come up in one way or another, and we just don’t want to disappoint you! But rest assured that we’re on the case, guys, and know that we’ll be announcing these milestones as soon as we can…

Many thanks for your understanding,

All of us at waze

  1. That's OK...simply try to be more specific when posting that "a new major release is out", WITHOUT specifying anywhere that's only for iPhone!!! -_-'

  2. Considering this says "For all other platforms" is there any update for those of us on WebOS? I have a work iPhone and use Waze on it but I much prefer my Pre and with its lack of navigation applications it would be a big thing for us

  3. Thanks, guys! I was just about to post asking when us poor lowly android users were going to get some of these cool new features =p

Keep on doing what you're doing, you guys rock.

  4. I can understand that, it's probably better that you test the software out on the iphone users first, they are the smallest market share these days ;)

  5. lol @ above post.

Its cool guys. Eagerly anticipating new releases for blackberry myself. Being involved in the beta program helps these guys get a better handle on what needs ironed out, and what their next step is. Communication with them on ideas and issues is important for timely roll outs of updates.

  6. How about you put everything else on hold and bust out all the features for my black berry?

  8. This is over a year old and Windows Phone is just about a year old and we still don't even have an outdated version. I was such a waze fan on WinMo and I recruited loads of users. Now, I'm the one stuck without it. Come on, Waze, consider Windows Phone. Market share arguments are moot as proven by KiK Messenger (see link below). Waze would get a significant percentage penetration with Windows Phone.
