New (iPhone) version featuring user-generated voice alerts

Awwww, yeah...with this new release waze just got one step more awesome. Why's that? 'Cause now we're offering community voice alerts to warn you when there are road hazards ahead. It's only on the iPhone, for now, but sit tight the rest of you, eventually you'll be able to enjoy this capability, too.

The new feature allows users to report on a wide range of road hazards, weather conditions, and potentially dangerous obstacles with minimal interaction with the app. For instance, once you spot a hazard, you'll be able to record a brief voice-description and share it with others in your area. Then, when those heading towards the hazard approach, they'll be warned by your voice-alert in advance to avoid any potential danger. We think it's a pretty cool way to “pay it forward,” and we hope you do, too.

Make sure to visit the Appstore and update your version today. And, as always, feel free to let us know what you think in the comments section, below...

  3. Been using it in the beta for a week now and it is really cool. When driving alone, it wasn't always possible to type in info about a hazard. Yesterday I came across a ladder in the fast lane of the interstate and tagged it as I went around it (but did not send it yet). After I got back up to speed, I added a voice tag to let other users know that the hazard was in the fast lane and to move to the right to avoid the hazard and the traffic.

  6. I hope people that are not shy don't take advantage of this voice feature and make some creepy sounds on it to scare drivers and cause a accident.

  7. [...] Opinions having to do with taste aren’t the only ones people are sharing and using, either. One project that really seems to be catching on is Waze, which provides free turn-by-turn directions generated by other users. As the database grows, it becomes more and more useful. Some local TV stations are even using Waze to provide local traffic updates during news broadcasts. The app just became more social and smarter too: today, Waze announced a function for users to add road hazard alerts through voice commands. [...]

  9. Really a good improvement, also aesthetically speaking. I would like to have some more "cars" icons (the 3D arrow disappeared!)
Also the speed-controlled zooming feature is really good! I would suggest to lower the horizon line when zooming out.
Also different sky wallpaper would be nice (maybe retrieving the meteorological data for the current position and change the sky image accordingly!)
