Waze's Official Launch in the UK - Today!

When we launched Waze in the US just about 2 years ago one of the most incredible phenomena we witnessed was how other driving communities started popping up (and growing!) on the map in areas where we hadn't yet launched. One of those places was in the UK. Pretty quickly a hardcore group of early adopters started building and editing the maps from scratch and soon enough the UK driving community was born…

Now, a few years later, we're finally ready for our consumer-level launch in the UK (today!) and have this initial driving community to thank – big-time. We brought in a basemap to ensure full coverage in England, Wales and Scotland and this committed community of existing Wazers were the ones who helped us to ensure the right local landmarks and addresses were included so new users would get the most optimal experience the first time they try Waze. Again, a big thank you to all you founders of the UK driving community – thanks for *literally* paving the way for those behind you - and a warm welcome to all of you new UK Wazers – we're really glad to have you on board!

  1. Any chance of a base map for Northern Ireland, given that we're part of the United Kingdom too.

  5. Congratulations! We have been using Waze before in the UK (March 2011) - in London this was doable and even quite good already, but when travelling to Dover, there appeared to be no map at all as all kind of street and place names seemed to be unknown... so that was the case! Good to know there is a base map now, so we can use the application in the UK too.

  7. While the base map is great for the UK, it badly needs to recognize postal codes for finding locations. Also there is no way to just put a pin in the map and mark it as your home / work / other destination.

I have typed in my address and it can't find it....

    Any plans to add this?

  8. Are there any plans to release a base map for mainland China? Beijing and Shanghai would be greatly appreciated! The traffic in both cities is really bad!

  10. Wish the Blackberry App was as good as iphone and Android. Downloaded the most recent version. OS6 is capable of so much more!

    1. Needs Address book integration - Drive to from contacts address.
    2. Voice integration. Did not hear a peep.
    3. Search by voice. ATT&T Nav. does it.

That's enough to get you going in the right direction.
    Thanks!
