Avoid Mudik and Hari Raya Traffic 2016

Millions of Indonesians and Malaysians travel each year for Mudik and Hari Raya. Spending time with family is a great reason to travel, but with so many people on the road, the traffic is predictably dreadful. Luckily, Waze has historical (and real-time) data that can help you avoid some of the inevitable Mudik and Hari Raya traffic. Ready to drive smarter? Here are the best and worst times to drive back from holiday in 2016.

Indonesia

Waze analyzed its 2015 Mudik app usage, as well as four weeks before and after for a baseline average, to predict the best and worst times to drive back home Sunday, July 10, and Monday, July, 11 this year. Here’s what we found:
If you’re leaving on Sunday, the best time to drive is before 9:00 A.M. The worst time to drive is between 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M.
On Monday, we see a 289.77% increase in traffic jam alerts, a 234.81% in accident alerts and a 46.67% increase in hazard alerts.If you plan on leaving on Monday, the best time to drive is before 8:00 A.M. The worst time to drive is between 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M.

Malaysia:

Waze analyzed its 2015 Hari Raya app usage, as well as four weeks before and after for a baseline average, to predict the best and worst times to drive back home on both Sunday, July 10, and Monday, July 11, this year. If you’re leaving on Sunday, be prepared for the worst. Throughout the day, we see a 262.4% increase in traffic jam alerts, a 47% increase in hazard alerts and a 199% in accident alerts. If you still plan on driving on Sunday, the best time to do so is before 11:00 A.M. The worst time to drive is between 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Monday looks slightly better. On Monday, the best time to drive is before 10:00 A.M. The worst time to drive is between 12:00 P.M and 6:00 P.M, as well as between 8:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M.

  • Send Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA): Let your friends and family know when you’ll arrive. No need for “Where are you?” text messages and phone calls.
  • Add a Stop: Need to pick up gas or food along the way? Add a stop with Waze, to ensure you’re on the fastest route to both your first and end destination.
