An Awazeing Race

How many times have you been driving, following your map directions, and suddenly, there is a road closure blocking your way? No notice from your phone, no new route to take, just a sign about an event in progress. And you're left sitting in your car, asking yourself, what's the point of a navigation app, if it's not up-to-date?

Well, the Waze Community noticed this too, and took action with The Awazeing Race.

The 8-week long digital race aimed to solve the problem by encouraging more Waze Map Editors to use the Major Traffic Event (MTE) editing tool, which tracks road closures related to—you guessed it—major events. Waze Map Editors went mouse-to-mouse in races across different categories, including Event Ninja (most MTEs), Best of Fest (most festivals), and Oddest Ball (strangest event). Over the course of The Awazeing Race, the equally amazing Waze Map Editor community added thousands of events, helping local Wazers not just get re-routed, but avoid road closures altogether.

So, who won? With a whopping 31,006 points, it was Uruguay, who had an early lead, thanks to many events for Carnaval, and was able to hold the #1 spot through the end of the race.

A big shout out to our individual category winners, too.
